Tuesday, June 5th is Bike to School Day (see end post) Friday, June 8th is the Volunteer Tea Today we watched a live stream webinar to find out more about Canadian Astronaut David Saint-Jacques. We learned about what it takes to be an astronaut. David Saint-Jacques shared that he has a Bachelor of Engineering degree, a Ph.D. in Astrophysics and he has a medical degree. "Knowledge is my hobby." Astronaut Saint-Jacques reminded us to not be afraid of our dreams. He described our dreams as being like the North Star. They are very far way and sometimes we can't get there. However, we should still try to achieve our dreams. In fact, he also said that if your dream is scary, it is even better. The video capture of David Saint-Jacques can be found below if you'd like to hear his inspirational message and learn more about being an astronaut. It is worth your time. Butterfly GardenOur butterflies have arrived! We now need to start our planning and designing process. What is OUR garden going to look like? The first piece of information we need is to find out is how big is our garden space? Students immediately knew they must use the area model to find the area of that they will be filling with flowers for our butterflies. Students measured the garden box using a variety of standard and non-standard measuring devices. When we looked at our data, we noticed our measurements weren’t the same. Why did this happen? Students shared whether they measured the inside or outside length and width and we looked the rulers to see that some started with zero and some had a gap before the zero. Time to remeasure to see if we can be more accurate. That is tomorrow’s task before we can decide how many flowers we can put in our space. Which Flower is best? Why?Plants for our Garden:
