We heard from a resident at the Mustard Seed, we visited CUPS and Inn From the Cold. We learned about their stories and how they feel in our community and we want to make sure they feel important and cared for. That they are visible. We want to take a chance and would like to have a bake sale to raise money for the Mustard Seed. Together, our grade 4 and grade 1 classes are going to provide the healthy snacks for the sale. Our plan is to use the money to stuff socks with essential items such as, toothbrushes, hygiene items, ear plugs, etc. We are asking students and their families to bake or make a healthy snack to sell at our sale which will be held on Tuesday December 4th and potentially Wednesday the 5th if supplies allow. We are asking students and families to try and make a healthy snack for the sale. You can use the link below and go to page 14 to better understand snacks that fall in the Choose Most Often and Choose Sometimes categories. https://open.alberta.ca/dataset/1c291796-4eb0-4073-be8e-bce2d331f9ce/resource/3319786c-1df1-43ca-8693-067f733682dc/download/nutrition-guidelines-ab-children-youth.pdf The guidelines suggest using whole grains, fruits, vegetables, reducing sugar and unhealthy fats. Some ideas that would be included on this list are: Cinnamon Apple Muffins Banana Muffins Oatmeal Cookies Pumpkin Muffins Fruit-ka-bobs Cheese and Crackers Carrot Cake Black Bean Brownies Avocado Brownies Zucchini Muffins Berry Muffins Date Squares Puffed Wheat Square No bake Chocolate, Oatmeal and Coconut Cookies Rice Krispy Squares Please also be considerate of students with allergies. As such, we are unable to sell any snack with nuts and/or raw egg in the finished item. This is important for us because the Mustard Seed supports those who don't have homes. As well, some of these people don't have families and feel invisible. We would like them to know they are important and that we care at Bridlewood School. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's teacher to discuss. Help us take a chance and thank-you in advance for your support! Ms. Jenn, Ms. Tanya, Ms. Manfro, Mr. Mori, and the grade 4 students Stuff a Sock Fundraiser Who: Grade 4 and grade 1 students What: Healthy Snack Bake Sale When: Tuesday, December 4th and Wednesday, December 5th at lunch Where: Rooms 1, 2, 3, and 4 Why: Students are raising money in order to buy items to stuff socks with much need items such as, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, ear plugs, and other hygiene items.
