We even got to try double dutch. BUTTERFLIES!These are our first painted lady butterflies...we have a total of 7 as of Tuesday! Grade 4 Butterfly GardenWe weeded and planted our plants as well as some more seeds in order to have a garden for all pollinators. It won’t be quite ready for our butterflies, but it will be beautiful and support other butterflies throughout the summer. Many of us found caterpillars and can you believe it they changed into chrysalis that night. Good timing for collecting them. We think they are Mourning Cloak Butterflies and they are common in Alberta. Their wing span is 6-10cm. We are excited to see if we correctly identified them. Math Game: Four GoA game we played today. Student practiced the following skills: - basic multiplication and division facts - understanding the number line - understanding that multiplication makes a number larger and division makes a number smaller - thinking about what types of numbers allow for no remainders/decimals when dividing - problem solving and strategy - thinking, "Will this equation give me a reasonable answer?" nrich.maths.org/5633 Bridlewood PondStudents roamed like the bison on our walk back to the school after visiting the pond. Why? It can cause less damage to the land. Students looked for flowers with the goal of identifying their parts. They documented what they saw in their journals. They also collected descriptive words about the pond so they could write poems about the pond. Six Room PoetryWe tried the six-room poetry technique today. We sat outside and recorded the images, light/colour, sounds, questions/wonderings, feelings, and repeating words. Then we came inside and wrote a poem. They were wonderful. This is a journalling technique that allows students to capture their experience and then write about it. Something students could try in the summer if they are looking for something to do and practice observing and writing. Po Po Nature Me

The looking of a Bridge By Marcus The wind is howling the dark brown bark of rough trees is beautiful. The sun is shining the ducks are floating around majestically. All that came from a wooden bridge while the cars pass by. I look deep into a green leaf that has a vertical line in the middle and six horizontal lines on each side. The ducks and birds feathered beasts of the wild. Bridlewood Pond By Coulter The duck were black and white and people sacred them away. But they felt a cool breeze and thought do people swim here? As the birds sang their song. Is it a pond? By Daniel There is an airplane flying over the fair, Letting CO2 into the air, Trees try to suck it in, But the woodcutter cuts then with a grin. There's one thing left, I turn right and then left, I walk down the peaceful path, Kids around me start to laugh, Kids laugh as they play, But I didn't have anything to say. I came to the pond, or is it a pond? It is all covered in plastic, people around me say 'fantastic!' Ducks quacks make me feel like there is no one there. And birds whistle makes me ask what animals live here? Bridlewood Pond By Lucas I was filled with joy when the teachers said, "We're going to Bridlewood Pond!". Three quarters of the way there the chatter stopped. While we walked we heard wonderful chirps and saw growing moss. The wind in my ear such a glorious sound. The peaceful feeling too strong to ignore as I watch the perfect shore. (thank you) Peace at the Bridlewood Pond By Makayla As I walk to my destination I hear rustling trees and whistling wind. Soon enough it becomes dead silent. I heard the sounds of birds murmuring. I sit down By Tyleigh So as I sit down and observe I look up and see the clear blue sky, as I look back at my page the brightness of the sky reflects on to my page and makes it very bright. I continue to sketch on the bright page and then look at the sun and start to feel calm, and then I hear the birds and felt more calm, and then I thought why is water so calming and peaceful? Happy Ducks By Jayden The hot sunny sun shining right at me, while a nice cool wind is cooling me off. Quack, quack I hear yelling at me nice beautiful water waving right at me, greens of plants blooming at me while I sit under shade making me nice and happy. Bye now end of the pond is here. Trash By Louise Ducks dive underwater searching for food. While Redwinged black birds sing their songs. Bee's buzz, cool slow winds pass by us. The warm sunlife goes through every pace it can, but the huge tree's create loads of shade. Too much litter in the water. Would this place be still called a wetland or... a dumpster? 6 Room Poetry By Behzod As I walk out I sit on the warm grass with the bright sun in my eyes. I can hear screams as kids walk past, the sky is blooming as I draw a flower that is a beautiful colour. Then I move to a place that is dark and shady it makes me cold at last. I look up to see a plane big and tall, then cars drive past with there big honks. As I look up at the sky I wonder whats over the air, the wind becomes stronger as the leaves rattle, as the water moves, fast, I can hear birds chirping fast and slow. 6 Room Poetry By Maychelle The water is vibrating, smooth, and soft petals drift around the hard, crunchy rocks. Flower repeat in my hear like floating ducks on the water. The shadow of the trees makes me want to dance. I wonder if there is a snake in one tree. When the ducks jump making water lumps but then it bumps in to a duck that quacks. Peaceful Pond By Julia The grass blowns on my back as the sun hits the passing airplanes making white clouds in the clear blue sky. A feeling of peace breezes over my body when I sit outside in pure peace. The grass withers away making it scratchy and of a different colour. I sit there and wonder if anyone is feeling differently sitting under the great shade of these bright leaves, listening to the chirping birds. As they land in the calm lake, and swim along it gentle surface. The water dance with the rustling winds. While the wind takes beautiful leaves. Watch them dance through the sky. All these things help me feel peace. But there's always one that comes to my mind. Is the simple wonders and whys? I wonder when birds fly to the sky, how fun is it for and up there is how high? Ducks By Cole There are a lot of birds, but people threw rocks and scared them away but that didn't stop the ducks swimming today. 6 Room Poetry By Setara I feel hot while I'm sitting at the pond watching the calm water flow. I hear the birds chirping in the trees. The Bridlewood Pond By Max We were getting ready for our walk to the pond and we had to have a partner up into pairs. So we were walking and so many people litter in the world. I was moon walking on the ground and my favourite dance is the moon walk. And by the time we got there I saw ducks and chicks and black birds and I felt the breeze blowing at my face. I saw flowers. Pond By Jacob I sat down on the shimmering green grass looking that a bright, white flower dancing in the wind. And the sun shinning on the shiny sidewalk. And the cars engines roaring across the road. Te smooth leaves rustling in the wind, and the crunchy sticks crumbling against the bumpy surface. Poem By Zain When I hear kids whining that they are hot, they gave me an idea why the ducks are going to the shade? When I see cars that are black I wonder how hot the car is? 6 Room Poetry By Arvin As tall grass stood tall I question why are bugs on this flower? I moved to a new spot where shade is and I saw another flower with tiny bugs on it again, so I moved to another spot but it was open sunlight but it had perfect view of the ducks and I also heard birds chirping. I felt calm. Bridlewood Pond By Ransym Trees are all around. Rocks sitting for years. Frogs hoping around. People being happy. The sun shining bright. Children wondering if frogs live here? Flowers blooming, birds chirping, leaves falling and bugs crawling. Bridlewood Pond By Harvey In the pond I see the bird showering in the pond and the ducks swimming and I am sitting in a chair and down in the chair is trash and ducks rest on a rock. Nature By Julie The ducks were swimming. The sky was blue if you are sad look at nature to make you glad. Trees were green bugs were buzzing around don't be afraid because you can stare at the lake water is cold the birders were tweeting. There was only one bird but I'm sure they'll come to flirt. 6 Room Poetry By Raidan The sky is blue and I do not know The sky is blue and I do not know what The sky is blue and I do not know what to do but... |
