Google docs is in the CBE sandbox and only people in that CBE sandbox can send to this email account. The reason for this is for safety and security. Today we learned how to login, create a folder, share a folder, and document in Google Drive. We will use this tool to publish our writing. Gmail and G Suite for Education (http://www.cbe.ab.ca/programs/technology-for-learning/Pages/default.aspx)G Suite for Education (formerly Google Apps for Education or GAFE) is an engaging online environment for students and teachers to create and collaborate on lessons and projects using Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Sites, Groups, Photos and Keep anytime and anywhere internet access is available. We recognize the value of these web applications as relevant and familiar learning and communication tools for students to build good digital citizenshipskills. Personal student information, report card comments, Individualized Program Plans (IPPs), student marks, or contact lists are not to be stored or transmitted using Google. Gmail and G Suite for Education at CBE is different from personal Gmail and Google. When students use Google Apps for Education, they are not subjected to advertising, nor is their information provided to third parties for other uses. Students agree to appropriately use these tools and to demonstrate responsible and respectful behaviour when participating in online environments. For assistance with G Suite login issues and more go to the technical support site. Spooky HousesWOW! We were busy today. First, we learned about value scale and practiced this art technique. It was important to not mix the colors when creating the white and the darkest color. Then when creating the different variations in color we slowly added the color to the white. When we applied this art technique to create our background, it made a night sky with a moon shining brightly. Second, our color choices were based on creating a mood. Colours like black, blue, and purple can be used to create a spooky night sky. Third, we added the house. We used black paper to create a silhouette of a house. We used yellow paper to show that the lights were on. We drew our houses and then cut them out. Finally, we were able to add some other additions to our pictures. Finally, we created a writing piece that zoomed in on one idea related to our artwork. These zoom-ins should create a movie in your head if you close your eyes while someone reads it to you. Happy Halloween! Communicating Clearly in MathMath is more than solving number sentences and getting the correct answer. Yes, being accurate is important, but it is also important to be able to explain your thought process, the strategies you used, and be clear in your solving. Today we looked at what clear communication looks like when sharing multiplicative thinking. What do you think? What is My Family's Connection to Alberta's History? As we began to learn about Canada's past and Canada's role in the wars, we began to share our family's stories. These stories are integral and important in understanding how Canada, and Alberta has been shaped over time. Our Diversity is Our Strength.
We would love to hear and explore how your family is connected to Alberta's history and what your stories are? ZOOM IN- Dazzling DetailsWe created a beautiful piece of art using chalk, oil pastels, and black water colour paint. I will get the opportunity to demonstrate my leadership skill on Monday when we share these techniques with our Grade 1 buddies. I wrote a Zoom-In and this piece of art is my inspiration. I can create 4 sentences that create a mind movie in my or your head. I use Dazzling Details to create images by using juicy words, facts, and my five senses to bring my writing to life. When you read my Zoom-In you should be able to see a movie in your head. Veteran’s Food DriveTelus Spark Field TripMonday we are headed to Telus Spark. Remember, you will need a lunch and a water bottle. Ms. Jenn and Ms. Tanya are excited to learn to tell stories through Shadow Puppets and coding in Scratch. We hope you are excited too. See you Monday!! New Math?Dr. James Tanton is an amazing mathematician. He is eloquent in his explanations of describing why algorithms work when doing arithmetic . He believes everyone can learn math. In this video, he talks about parental concerns regarding the area model for multiplication. It is worthy of your time to watch. |
