Monday No School Victoria Day Tuesday Bridlewood Trustee Presentation (Tyleigh, Lucas, and Ethan) Looking at Problems in Alberta Wednesday Special Lunch Thursday Teachers for the Day Lincoln and Zain Friday Teachers for the DayMs. Zain and Mr. Lincoln met today to discuss their plans for Thursday, May 24th. Did you know they were the teachers for the day because of their fantastic fundraising efforts? They have some great ideas and Ms. Jenn and Ms. Tanya can hardly wait. We are going to be working with clay!!! We will need to think about Red and Bongo from Wishtree. Be ready to have fun! Trustee MeetingWere you able to catch the live streaming of the trustee’s meeting? If you didn’t, you missed Tyleigh, Lucas, and Ethan’s presentation (you can read it if you scroll down in the blog.) Honestly, these kids did a fabulous job of not only representing Bridlewood School, but also the work our class has undertaken this past year. We had a small audience in the classroom at lunch and then we were able to manage to play it for the entire group after lunch. We are so proud - beaming, in fact. and for the video...Teachers for the day...Mr. Lincoln and Ms. ZainMr. Lincoln and Ms. Zain began their morning with hot chocolate and Timbits. Their first item of business was attendance. They quickly found out who was at school and who was away. Next, Mr. Lincoln shared a book he had brought from home with the class. It was a book of paintings of all of Alberta's Grain Elevators. Lincoln's grandmother had painted all the paintings. Lincoln was excited to share this beautiful book with the class. Lincoln has generously offered to donate the book to the class. Thank-you Lincoln! MBW (morning bell work) was next. See the picture below (#numbersearch #wodb) to see what you think. Ms. Zain and Mr. Lincoln asked the students what they though and why they though they were correct. Mr. Lincoln and Ms. Zain decided we should do an art project today with clay. They decided to connect it to the book we are reading aloud in the classroom, Wishtree. Students created either Bongo (the crow) or Red (an old red oak tree) with the clay. They then begin to think about why either Bongo or Red were good friends - that is, what makes them good friends. Students had a snack before heading outside for gym. When students returned from gym, they voted to read independently. Then Ms. Haskell came in to talk about Lunch Squad. Ask me if you want more details. After lunch, Ms. Zain and Mr. Lincoln had arranged for our grade 1 buddies to join us. We shared our Fractured Fairy Tales with our buddies. It was a great way to finish our work on Fractured Fairy Tales. Then we had music...and a fire drill. We ended the day by playing a math game to practice adding and subtracting decimals. It was called, Shopping with Decimals. We started with $5 and then drew cards to determine if we had earned money or spent money. The winner of the game was the player with the most money after all the cards were gone. All the students LOVED this game. Thank-you to Mr. Lincoln and Ms. Zain for a fabulous day! #numbersearch #wodbIf the little white square is 1, what other numbers can you see? Also...Which one doesn't belong? Diffy - an addition and subtraction game1. Write four different numbers into the 4 outside circles.
2. Fill the outside squares by subtracting the smaller number from the larger number in each corner. 3. Continue moving inwardly using the same criteria. Questions: What patterns do you see? Can you get to the middle without a difference of zero? Another fantastic game. We are going to use decimals next time. This time we were learning the game. Comments are closed.
